by Jean Harlow, 1933 (as on display at The Hollywood Museum):
Some day I shall be more famous than I am right now —
A greater star —
I shall receive more homage —
The applause of the world —
Some day
Meanwhile, I shall wear my crown with grace and dignity —
Ever ready to put it aside.
And when I walk among unlucky folks —
Those whose glory never gilds —
I shall be gracious and kind, as one of them.
And then — some day– when my sun has passed its zenith —
And my shadow lengthens before me — These people will still be my friends.
They will remember that Jean Harlow never forgot them —
That she accepted their applause as a privilege
And never as a right.
They will recall with happy remembrance, some day —
That I was sweet to them —
Loyal to them —
Considerate of them.
And I shall thus win my greatest reward — Some day.
It will be then that my ship will come in —
Laden with the love of all who knew me —
Weighted down with their good wishes —
Some day.
