An excerpt from columnist Dan Thomas’ description of the event, from an NEA article dated December 17:
“Carole Lombard decked out in a very daring gray dress … and with Robert Riskin, the writer, again … he’s been getting a lot of her attention the last few weeks … Bill Powell and Jean Harlow only a few tables away … don’t be misled by their constant attention, they aren’t going to be married …”
Unrelated, but here’s my favorite detail from the event: legendary S.O.B. Frank Fay was appointed as Master of Ceremonies, and noted that he was thrilled to hear Hollywood say anything nice about him. Yeah, whatever, Frank.
