Here are a variety of portraits and action shots of Jean playing a game of tennis on the courts at the Beverly Hills Hotel on December 29, 1932.
With her in this last portrait is professional tennis player Harvey Snodgrass, who was Jean’s instructor. He was retired at this point in time.
Original press snipe: “Los Angeles, Calif. — Jean Harlow, the beautiful screen star and original platinum blonde, shown with Harvey Snodgrass, the former tennis champion, at the Beverly Hills courts where he is teaching her the fine points of the game.”
An avid tennis player, Jean was equally interested in badminton and golf. The next month, January 1933, would have Jean photographed playing a round of golf at Agua Caliente, Tijuana, with her stepfather and Jesse Lasky.
Jean mentioned sports in a 1933 fan letter, to a woman named Mabel: “I played golf today and yesterday, and feel so much better because of it. I had not played in weeks. You surely do notice the difference.”
